May will be the month of competitions, celebrations,
festivals, grand openings and world-record-breaking
events. Four finalist destinations in Slovenia are competing
for the EDEN award − the theme of the
2011 European Destinations of Excellence competition is
‘Tourism and the Regeneration of Physical Sites’. On 21
May, Bohinj will become the host of the
International Wild Flower Festival for
the fifth consecutive year. Bled castle
will be celebrating a thousand years since its
first mention in written records; the main
ceremony will be held on Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22
May 2011. Predjama Castle will give
birth to a very special edition of Erasmus
Sparkling Wine. The renovation of once very popular pearl of
Slovenian tourism, even visited by English royalty and
numerous local and foreign tourists, began a few years
ago. The completely renovated Rimske terme spa
is reopening its doors at the end of this May.
Hostel Celica in Ljubljana has been
awarded several times so far by international tourism
industry professionals; now it received the
Hoscar award. The Secondary
School Graduates` Parade has been entered into
several editions of the Guinness Book of Records
as a world-record-breaking synchronous dance.
This year it is to be held on 20 May.

the 2011 EDEN award | The Slovenian Tourist Board takes part for
the fourth time in the European Destinations of

The deed of donation in which Bled Castle is

| March 2011 sees 9% more tourist
arrivals and 7% more overnig | Compared to March 2010, in March 2011
9% more tourist arrivals and 7% more overnight
stays were registered. The number of overnights
of domestic tourists increased by 3% and of
foreign tourists by 11%. In the first quarter of
this year the number of arrivals increased by 5%
and the number of overnight stays by 3% compared
to the same period last year.
