Angeles International Airport Launches Capital Improvements
Website Los
Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has launched a new website to
help keep the public informed about the major capital
improvement programs underway at Los Angeles International
Airport (LAX). This new website provides regular updates on
construction and improvement projects at the airport,
including the $1.5- billion Bradley West Project, installation
of more Runway Status Lights, and the Elevator and Escalator
Refurbishment Program. The site also hosts two "Earthcam"
cameras which automatically take images of Bradley West
construction from different angles and vantages every day. The
website is designed to keep travelers, airport workers and
area residents apprised of what to expect from the extensive
modernization at LAX. In addition, the site includes the
latest traffic and passenger alerts to make navigating through
LAX easier during construction. LAX is the seventh busiest
airport in the world, offering more than 565 daily flights to
81 destinations in the U.S. and over 1,000 weekly nonstop
flights to 65 international destinations on over 75 carriers.

Multicultural Offerings in Los Angeles Sunny
skies and golden opportunities have made Los Angeles a magnet
for people from around the world since the city's beginnings.
Today, this rich heritage can be explored in dozens of museums
which showcase LA's diverse cultural legacies. Among the
newest will be the LA Plaza de Cultura Y Artes, opening April
16, and the Italian American Museum, set to open in late 2012.
LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes will be the nation's premier
center of Mexican American culture and arts, set on a 2.2-acre
campus of historic buildings in Downtown LA near the site
where Los Angeles was founded in 1781. It will feature iconic
artifacts, one-of-a-kind interactive experiences, films and
exhibits. The inaugural exhibit - "LA Starts Here!" - will
examine Mexican and Mexican American history and how it shaped
LA's development. The Italian American Museum is housed in the
century-old Italian American Hall, located Downtown in what
was once LA's "Little Italy." Built in 1908, the magnificent
building was a social and cultural center for LA's Italian
community and will return to its glory as a 21st century
fully-interactive center reflecting the Italian and Italian
American experience from the 19th to the 21st centuries.
Displays will include historical and artistic exhibitions,
along with lectures, festivals and community events. Visitors
and residents can enjoy more of LA's diversity at cultural
centers including the Japanese American Museum, Chinese
American Museum, California African America Museum, Korean
Cultural Center and the Skirball Cultural Center, one of the
world's most dynamic Jewish cultural institutions. Many Los
Angeles-area museums and cultural organizations are offering
special pricing on admission and gift shop purchases during
LA's "Discover the Arts" program, which LA INC. The Los
Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau developed in
partnership with Wells Fargo and which runs through April 30.

LA Marathon Route Adds New Landmarks The
2011 Honda LA Marathon Presented by K-SWISS, which once again
starts at Dodger Stadium and finishes on Ocean Avenue, just
steps from the Santa Monica Pier, has added several new
landmarks this year. The newly revised Stadium to the Sea
course for 2011 will add Chinatown's Dragon Gateway and the
Little Tokyo Historic District to an already impressive list
of landmarks that includes Los Angeles City Hall, Grauman's
Chinese Theatre, the Capitol Records Building, Sunset Strip,
Rodeo Drive and downtown Santa Monica. In making the
announcement, race organizers unveiled a first-of-its-kind
animated course video that takes viewers through the twists
and turns of the newly updated route. The two-minute video,
available online, provides an overhead look at some of the
race's grand icons and indicates elevation changes throughout
the course. www.lamarathon.com |
