| | | | Dear Dr. Dneprovoy
A successful year is drawing to a close: several
days ago the twenty millionth bed night was counted in the German
capital – a historical record, which was, amongst other things, also
achieved thanks to the cultural diversity of Berlin. The large Frida
Kahlo exhibition in the Martin-Gropius-Bau and the Berlin Music Week
were two of many highlights of the year 2010. And 2011 will be just
as exciting: the international film festival “Berlinale”, the FIFA
Women's Football World Cup 2011 and the exhibition "The salvaged
Gods from the Palace of Tell Halaf" will be amongst the outstanding
events. Details on these and other highlights of 2011 are covered by
the last issue of Culture Top Ten News from Berlin for this
year. We wish
you a happy reading and a good start into the New Year!

2011 jury president is Isabella Rossellini. The
Berlinale has long been considered one of the most
important events in the international film industry and
with sales of around 300,000 tickets in 2010 enjoys by
far the largest audience of any film festival in the
world. | | |

based on the boulevard’s turbulent history. The
exhibition and accompanying festivities begin on 5 May
and run throughout the summer.

| | Summer
in Berlin | |
Holiday
in the city? A real alternative in Berlin! Drink
cocktails and play beach volleyball on the banks of the
Spree or relax at beach bars on the roofs of buildings.
One highlight that ushers in the start of summer is Fête
de la Musique, where you can hear music from
professionals, amateurs or street musicians on almost
every corner. | | |

| | The
Rescued Gods of Tell Halaf
Berlin’s
greatest puzzle has finally been solved. It took nine
years for restorers to piece together around 27,000
fragments of stone from the monumental sculptures of
Tell Halaf. From 28 January 2011, “The Rescued Gods from
the Palace of Tell Halaf” will once again be on display
in the Pergamon Museum, including the impressive façade
of a royal palace stemming from 1000 BC.

| | Berlin
Music Week | |
Berlin’s
biggest musical event in September 2011 is also an
industry meeting point, congress and concert marathon.
The highlight is the “Berlin Festival”, which grew out
of the Popkomm, and is held at Tempelhof Airport. In
2010 the Editors and Adam Green, among other stars,
ensured a great party atmosphere on the airfield and in
the hangars. On “Club Night” – also held during Music
Week – around 40 clubs open their doors throughout the
city, offering an overview of Berlin’s legendary club
scene. | | |

2011 until 31 October 2012, a 22 x 100-metre circular
panorama will be on display, featuring music and sounds
from daily life in the antique city. At the same time,
